Earth and Sky

Young People's Concert with conductor David In-Jae Cho and the San Antonio Symphony will feature music inspired by the grandeur of the earth and the mystery of the sky. The program features the winning entries in the annual Paint to Music Contest. $4 plus handling fee. Dance Anthology

Nritya Sangam is a not for profit Indian Classical Dance Troupe. Nritya Sangam gives back to their university and community through educational and charitable performances. The dancers primarily specialize in Bharata Natyam, which is a highly codified Classical Indian Dance style.

On behalf of Nritya Sangam, I would like to invite you to our Fall Benefit Performance on Saturday, February 24th at the Hindu Temple of San Antonio. The performance will begin at 6:30 PM. This year's performance is titled "Dance Anthology."

The performance is free of cost and there will be a light meal following the show. All donations will benefit the Hindu Temple of San Antonio.

Ski Apache Trip

For full members of HERO, a trip to Ski Apache in Ruidoso, New Mexico is planned for skiing on Feb. 14th and Feb. 16th. Thanks to HERO and to Ski Apache, children 7 through 18 can attend a 2.5 hour beginner's ski school for $2. Also, for those more accomplished skiers of the same age group, HERO has arranged $2 lift tickets. For accompanying parents/guardians, lift tickets are available for only $10. These price are per day.

Skiing starts at 10am (unless you want to pay full price and start at 8:45) and the lifts close at 4pm. Ski school starts at 10am on Wednesday, and 1pm on Friday. Normal pricing applies for Thursday, Feb. 15th. However, we will receive a group discount if we have enough skiers for that day.

For younger children, there is the Kiddie Korral starting at $86. It opens at 8:30 till 4pm. They have a little tow rope, so the kids can learn quite quickly. Ruidoso, NM is about 120 miles NE of El Paso, and there is plenty of snow with the best conditions in years. Contact Linda at llibasci@earthlink.net for information on lodging, transportation, ski rental, to reserve a slot in the ski school, and any other questions. We will be receiving group rates wherever we can, depending on the number of skiers and duration of stay. Right now, I have lodging with full breakfast, indoor pool, high speed internet, microwave and frig,for $52.99 for a king, $62.99 for two queens, plus tax. I may be able to reduce that price, depending on the number of rooms our group will use.

KONOS Karats Network Meeting! What is KONOS all about?

Understanding the genocide in Darfur

A two part series on “Understanding Sudan” will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 and Feb. 28 at University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell (corner of Shook and Bushnell one block west of Trinity University.) The talks are sponsored by the San Antonio Interfaith Darfur Coalition, a group comprised of local non-profit organizations and individuals dedicated to stopping the genocide occurring in Darfur in western Sudan.

“Bearing Witness: Crisis in Darfur” with Ruth Messinger, president of American Jewish World Service.
Messinger will bring the latest information about recent events in Darfur, the urgency of the situation and efforts which have been made to bring this genocidal situation to the world’s attention.

7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28
“The Lessons of the World's Longest Civil War: Southern Sudan” with Bobbie-Frances McDonald, founder of the Sudan Advocacy Action Forum.
McDonald will provide important background information about Southern Sudan and the connections with the ongoing Darfur genocide. She will explore the problems facing southerners today and why this is relevant to Darfur's future.

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum Homeschool Day

Home school families will receive the discounted school group rates for exhibits, IMAX® Theatre, and Texas Spirit Theater admissions on February 26th. One adult per family will receive the teacher rate and additional adults will receive the chaperone rate.

Explore the Story Learning Stations will be scheduled from 10 am - 3 pm. Education volunteers will lead students in hands-on activities, demonstrations, and much more!

 You will explore minerals, rocks and soils and their formation (with  a bit of chemistry for older students), landforms and other geology  topics. You will take home 15 – 20 rock and mineral specimens,  streak plates, plaster `fossils' and more. You will be hiking to  view geological features in the park and there may be some dirt involved!

Homeschool Swim Team

The San Antonio Wave Home School group is open to all ages and grade levels. The group trains together as one, however the workouts are structured to accomodate the variety of ages and ability. We strive to help San Antonio Home Schoolers fulfill their PE requirement, while becoming water safe and having fun at the same time. The group trains at the Alamo Heights High School (6900 Broadway), Monday thru Friday at 1:00 pm. The AHHS Natatorium is a clean and spacious indoor facility. Home School swimmers may compete on the weekends with the Wave team, if desired. By offering an early afternoon practice, the evening hours belong to your family. 4th Annual Teen Fashion show - Call for Entries!

6th Annual Spring Break Teen Band Event - Call for Entries

 Are you in a band? Know someone in a band? Need an excuse to talk to someone in a band? youth(wired) is looking for teen bands to perform at the 6th Annual Spring Break Teen Band Event scheduled to take place during Spring Break on Wednesday, March 14 in the auditorium of the Central Library. Metal, Goth, Blues, R&B and Rap—we want it all. The number of bands we can host is limited. Members of the bands must all be teens!
