Dinosaur George’s Ultimate Paleo-Adventure opened its doors on
October 15th, since than we have estimated a little less that 9,000
people have come to the museum located in District 2! “Since we
opened, we knew we were on to something, so many children, parents and
visitors had been waiting for a downtown family attraction. We are
pleased to work with the city on extending our stay and hope more
people come to see our wonderful event”, states George Blasing.
Dinosaur George's Ultimate Paleo-Adventure is an exhibition of
Dinosaurs, displayed in brilliant lighting, sound, and natural
settings. More than an event, it is a museum-like experience created
to be an educational, entertaining show the entire family will enjoy.
Dinosaur George and life-like animations will help propel this event
into an exciting experience for all ages. This museum is entertaining
yet educational, and hosts over 25 complete life-sized skeletons and
hundreds of skulls, all under a tapestry of brilliant lighting and
sound effects. With video descriptions and high-end animation, this
adventure will be a memorable experience.

THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM
The SA United Developmental
program is available to all U8/U9 and U10 players who are looking for
advanced training by professional coaches. The SA United Developmental
program is designed for players looking to enhance their soccer skills
by enrolling in a program that works to improve their skill
development by using more advanced levels of training and play. The
program focuses on individual technical skills as well as introducing
players to small sided conditioned games. Players will develop their
skills while training in a team environment and will have the chance
to play 6v6 soccer games against other developmental teams throughout
San Antonio. Home games are played at McAllister Park. Please note
that the developmental program is not select soccer and anyone
interested in playing can sign up.
The aim of the SA United Developmental program is purely on helping
our young players develop their skills, techniques, knowledge and love
for the game. The program provides the opportunity for players to
‘move’ away from the recreational scene and continue their passion for
the sport whilst receiving professional training. Players will train
twice a week with our qualified and experienced trainers provided by
World Wide Soccer. Games are also coached by the World Wide Soccer
trainers. There are no try outs, and 50% play per game is enforced.

They’re big, really big. David Rogers’ Big Bugs stand as tall as 25
feet and have wingspans up to 17 feet wide! And they are “swarming”
the San Antonio Botanical Garden.
This gigantic exhibit will be on display through January 3, 2010. Big Bugs is a nationally prominent touring exhibit. At the San
Antonio Botanical Garden, visitors will see ten larger-than-life
insect sculptures, all made from natural materials, positioned
throughout the 33 acres of the Garden.
The exhibit is intended to introduce guests to the world of
insects, their role in the plant world, and their interconnectedness
to our lives. Bugs outnumber humans one million to one.
Many live in communal groups working as one for the common good of
all. Their ranks include engineers, soldiers, weightlifters,
weavers, hunters, stalkers, gatherers, and even royalty. When you take
this remarkable and diverse group of “hidden gardeners” and recreate
them on a gargantuan scale, you have David Rogers’ Big Bugs. The
effect is a role reversal of dimension and perception.
This Big Bugs sculptural exhibit fascinates all ages. The San
Antonio Botanical Garden provides important educational programming to
thousands of area children and adults regarding the vital
environmental role insects have in the lives of people and nature.
Related educational
activities offered during the exhibit include:
- Color site map
with the location of each sculpture.
- Educator’s Guide – pre and
post-field trip lessons and activities that relate to TEKS (available
for grades K-5).
- Interpretive signage at each sculpture.

ENGLISH COUNTRY DANCING Happens once a month, the first
Saturday of the month, 7:30 pm at Incarnate Word Univ next to
Central Market. The dances are partner dances done in a long line
of couples, as seen in the latest Pride and Prejudice movie. There
is no footwork or steps to learn, the couples dance figures that
move them up and down the line. It is a great activity for the
whole family. Suggested donation for adults is $2.00, and kids are
always free. From Broadway, enter the driveway across from Denny's
and follow the signs back to the Garden Room.
INTERNATIONAL DANCING Takes place every Friday at Lions
Field Rec Center, 2809 Broadway (at Mulberry) Yes it is a senior
center, but young people are invited for international dancing on
Fridays, 7:30 pm. These dances are easy and mostly line or circle
dances from countries like Romania, Greece, Israel, and France, among
others. The dances and music are traditional, we learned them from
dance teachers from the respective countries. So it's a great
opportunity to learn about other cultures, choose an activity that
provides some exercise, and suitable for the whole family, because
there's no smoking or alcohol here! Kids come free, and for adults
$2.00 suggested donation. Wear comfortable, sensible shoes, and casual
clothes.
The Home School group is open to all ages and grade levels. It
is recommended that children be able to swim at least one length
of a 25 yard pool to enroll. Instruction is designed to
accommodate a variety of swim abilities. The Wave Home School
program is geared toward helping Home Schoolers fulfill their PE
requirement, while becoming water safe, better swimmers and having
fun at the same time.
The group trains at the Alamo Heights High School (6900 Broadway)
on Monday, Wed. and Friday at 1:15 pm. Your children can attend any or
all of those 3 days that work best. Home School swimmers may compete
at the weekend meets, if desired. By participating in an early
afternoon practice, the evening hours belong to your family. Please
call Coach Susan, for try-out information: 210-488-1923.
