JACK SKILES
Music Studies Scholarship
This scholarship continues the legacy of noted musician and TMC member Jack
Skiles, who supported and nurtured the growth of the area music community for
many years.
Eligibility
If you reside in South Central Texas and are currently enrolled in music
composition, music education, music/sound engineering, music journalism, music
management, music performance (vocal or instrumental), music production, music
theory, music therapy, musical theatre, or entertainment law classes on either a
high school (including home school), technical college, junior college,
university level, you are invited to share your talents, skills, and career
goals for the opportunity to receive a one time award to assist you in
furthering your studies. This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who best
demonstrates their ambition to pursue a career in the music industry; exhibits
strong abilities in their field; and has maintained a good academic record.
Previous and/or current membership with TMC is not a requirement. Previous
and/or current TMC members are eligible to apply. Previous participants and
winners are eligible to reapply. Applicants must be currently enrolled in school
to be eligible.
Prizes
• One Grand Prize winner will receive $500 towards their studies and a
complimentary one year TMC membership.
• One Second Place winner will receive $250 towards their studies and a
complimentary one year TMC membership.
• One or More Runners-up will each receive a complimentary one year TMC
membership.
• All winners will be included in contest post-publicity.
• All performance-based winners will be invited to participate at TMC events
during their year of reign as a winner.
• All applicants will receive Certificates of Participation.
• Any teacher, librarian, dean, mentor, or other educational adviser who is
cited as being instrumental to the winning applicant’s music studies, will be
recognized with a Special Certificate and a complimentary one-year TMC
membership as well. Please be sure to provide adequate contact information for
the cited individual(s).

Procedures
If any of the below mentioned items are not followed, entry will be
automatically disqualified.
1. Please submit a completed official TMC Scholarship Application that is
legible and in the English language (this may be
hand-written or typed).
2. Please submit a sample of your creative work demonstrating your pursuance of
a career in the music industry. This can
either be a DVD, a CD, an essay, or the like.
3. Please submit a description of the sample to be judged. For example: don’t
just send in a CD, clarify which track(s) you
want judged and identify your role(s) on that sample. If you are a music
education, music management, music therapy,
music journalism, or entertainment law applicant, please provide an example of
how you have utilized those skills. If you
are a songwriter, please include lyrics/sheet music.
4. Please submit a brief biography about yourself
5. Please submit your most current official high school or college level
transcript in a sealed envelope.
6. All applicants are required to attend the “Meet & Greet” event to be held on
SATURDAY, JUNE 19, 2010 from 6-10PM or
must at least have a representative of their choice present.
7. All applicants are required to be available for media interviews.
8. Each applicant may submit only ONE application per year.
9. All entries must be postmarked before FRIDAY, JUNE 11, 2010 and mailed to:
