The Apprenticeships in the Folk Arts program supports private, intensive study of the traditional arts between a master artist and a competent and motivated apprentice. It supports all genres of folk arts, including crafts, oral traditions, dance, and music. TFR has granted over 50 awards since the program's inception in 1987. These awards have covered apprenticeships in diverse traditional arts, including blues guitar playing, conjunto accordion techniques, Cambodian dancing, Trinidadian costume making, saddle making, stonecarving, and Mexican trio-style singing. |
