AwesomeStories.com is an
educational learning tool designed to support state and national standards. Each
story on the site links to on-line primary source materials which we
hand-search, select and position, in context, to enhance reading comprehension,
understanding and enjoyment. The site has been freely available, in a totally
ad-free environment, since 1999.
The Internet includes a universe of fantastic source materials which we wanted
to connect and organize into interesting stories. We realized huge work was
needed to actualize that vision but wanted to provide a way for teachers,
students, and the general public to learn new things in an entertaining,
interactive environment.
After the site's initial launch, people from the U.S.A. and around the world
asked for more stories and more topics which link to more primary resources. We
responded to those requests and greatly expanded the scope of the site and its
subjects. It currently contains hundreds of thousands of targeted links,
positioned exactly where they are most needed, within the context of hundreds of
stories.
AwesomeStories, where each story we produce is reviewed and approved by experts
in the relevant field, has been privately funded by the
law firm of Bos & Glazier
during all these years. In 2005, we relaunched the site under the auspices of a
stand-alone company (AwesomeStories Internet Productions) to help us more
quickly respond to the growing number of requests for new material and to
significantly increase the depth of the site. We also hope to greatly extend the
site's worldwide reach to teachers, students and the learning public.
To continue providing a free site license to schools and libraries, as we grow
the site's content, we charge a modest annual subscription fee ($19.95) for
individuals.
