Gardening Volunteers of South Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to horticulture education, research and earth-wise gardening. We are also a “hands on” group, offering volunteer gardening services to other community and civic organizations.
We work closely with San Antonio Water Systems, and have teams of volunteers who work at the San Antonio Botanical Garden and the City of San Antonio Nursery. We also provide speakers for other organizations and the Northside Independent School District’s Community Education Program. Another team of volunteers works with Dr. Jerry Parsons of Texas A&M;, providing assistance for his research and propagation program.
GVST activities include sponsoring monthly “Gardening in the Neighborhood” events throughout the San Antonio area, and conducting “Essentials of Gardening” classes. The free, monthly classes are designed as an introduction to successful gardening in South Texas. General meetings are held every other month and include an Enrichment Program featuring speakers on advanced horticulture topics. We also offer field trips to gardening destinations throughout the area.
