Texas Transportation Museum was begun in 1964. It's a great place, built and
run by volunteers who like this stuff so much we are willing to work for free!
We receive no government funding of any kind and so are totally dependent on the
income we make from visitors. We must be doing something right if we are still
here after 40 years! We are open three days a week and offer scheduled train
rides on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Education is one of the main purposes of the Museum. We are open every
Thursday to allow organized school groups to attend the museum. Other groups,
such as from day cares, or churches, are very welcome, too. We do take groups at
the weekend but it is very important to book such groups in advance, to make
sure we have enough docents available. The museum has a well thought out tour
for such groups. They will be given a guided tour of the museum by knowledgeable
docents, who will provide age appropriate information as they show the museum to
group members. Its hard to calculate the educational value the children will get
from their visit. It'll be some of the most cost effective dollars you will ever
spend on their education. |
