| The Esperanza Center is a progressive grassroots cultural organization, advocating for and affirming the lives and struggles of people of color, women, lesbians and gay men, the working class and poor. Founded in 1987 by Latina women, both lesbian and straight, the Esperanza has grown into a formidable, visionary, multi-issue institution. We believe in building bridges across divides by creating spaces for the exchange of stories, for honest and critical dialogue, and for expanding people's understandings. We do this through diverse and dynamic programming that includes film festivals, visual art exhibitions, concerts, a hand-made pottery cooperative program, drama & poetry performances, writer's forums, a youth media program, the publication of a grassroots magazine, leadership workshops, technical assistance, marches and rallies, and creation of and collaboration in activist networks. |
